June: Saints feast Days in the Month of the Sacred Heart

June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion that calls the faithful to contemplate Christ’s burning love for humanity. The Church also celebrates the birth of Saint John the Baptist, the only saint whose nativity is honored with a solemnity. June’s saints include martyrs, mystics, missionaries, and founders — witnesses who teach us that love of God demands everything.

June 1 — Saint Justin Martyr

Early Church Father and Philosopher, Apologist who defended and Became a Martyr for Christianity before Roman authorities.

June 2 — Saints Marcellinus and Peter

Martyrs who died under Diocletian. Their relics are venerated in Rome.

June 3 — Saints Charles Lwanga and Companions

Ugandan martyrs who died for their faith rather than submit to immoral demands. Patrons of youth and Africa.

June 4 — Saint Francis Caracciolo

Founder of the Minor Clerks Regular. Known for devotion to the Eucharist and love of poverty.

June 5 — Saint Boniface

Apostle of Germany. Martyred while evangelizing the Frisians. Patron of Germany.

June 6 — Saint Norbert

Founder of the Premonstratensians. Reformer of clergy and defender of the Eucharist.

June 7 — Blessed Franz Jägerstätter

Austrian farmer martyred for refusing to serve in Hitler’s army. Patron of conscientious objectors.

June 8 — Blessed Virgin Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces

Marian feast emphasizing Mary’s role in distributing divine grace.

June 9 — Saint Ephrem the Syrian

Deacon, poet, and theologian. Doctor of the Church. Called the “Harp of the Holy Spirit.”

June 10 — Saint Landry of Paris

Bishop known for charity to the poor and building the first hospital in Paris.

“Son of encouragement.” Missionary companion of Saint Paul. Patron of Cyprus.

Princess who became a Poor Clare nun. Known for humility and care of the sick.

Doctor of the Church. Patron of lost things. Famous for his preaching and miracles.

June 14 — Saint Methodius I of Constantinople

Patriarch who defended icons during the Iconoclast controversy.

June 15 — Saint Vitus

Martyr. Patron of dancers, actors, and those suffering from epilepsy.

June 16 — Saint John Francis Regis

Jesuit missionary to rural France. Patron of social workers and lacemakers.

June 17 — Saint Albert Chmielowski

Polish artist who became a Franciscan tertiary. Founder of the Albertine Brothers and Sisters. Patron of artists.

Cardinal and bishop. Patron of the Catholic press and seminaries.

Founder of the Camaldolese monks. Reformer of Benedictine life. Patron of hermits.

June 20 — Saint Silverius

Pope and martyr. Exiled and died for defending orthodoxy against heresy.

June 21 — Saint Aloysius Gonzaga

Jesuit novice. Patron of youth. Died caring for plague victims.

Martyrs of the English Reformation. Refused to acknowledge Henry VIII as head of the Church.

June 23 — Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Celebrates the birth of the forerunner of Christ. Only saint whose nativity is a solemnity.

“Doubting Thomas.” Patron of India. Martyred near Madras.

June 29 — Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul

Princes of the Apostles. Pillars of the Church. Martyred in Rome under Nero.

June 30 — First Martyrs of the Church of Rome

Commemorates the Christians martyred under Nero in A.D. 64.
